  3. @ 28:48 – Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit the unpardonable sin. Would we say now that all people who are alive and not Believers are blasphemers?
  4. @ 37:07 – 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 describes “the manifestation of the Spirit given to each one for the profit of all.” Does this mean every believer has been given one of the gifts listed in verses 8-10? Are some people given more than one? How do I know which one I have been given? If you have the time, can you briefly explain what each of these mean with examples.

  2. @ 34:16 – 1,200 Churches in California are planning on holding Sunday, May 31 in their facilities. Are we going to join them?
  3. @ 39:06 – So God created man and without asking them now holds them to a standard after being born in a sinful state, and then tortures him, for all eternity, after man doesn’t live to His standard…?
  4. @ 44:03 – The 3 billionaires have the following hobbies.
    Bill Gates plays chess.
    Warren Buffet plays the ukulele.
Mark Cuban exercises 6 days a week.

What do you two do or what hobbies do you have to relax?
  5. @ 49:13 – On Sunday, Pastor Miles said that before God renders judgement, He always offers grace and extends words of peace. Are you saying that this is extended to non-believers. And when and how does this happen?
  6. @ 51:51 – Monday on Channel 18, Pastor Miles mentioned Matthew 12:36: “I tell you that everyone will have to give an account on the day of judgement for every Idle word spoken.” IDLENESS is the quality, state, or condition of being lazy or inactive. The quality of groundless, worthlessness or triviality. Now the teasing, joking around aren’t those “idle words” you guys do and we all do?
  7. @ 56:18 – Point 3 said that God’s judgment will be final and complete. What do you think about purgatory? What about universalism? Do you believe that hell is eternal torment? Or what do you think about annihilationism?

  1. @ 27:20 – 2 Kings 13:20-21 tells us of a man being thrown into Elisha’s grave and miraculously being revived once his body touched the bones. I assume that Elisha has been dead for a while if only his bones are there.
    1) why is his grave open?
    2) are these 2 sentences here to show us that even though Elisha wasn’t caught up to God in the same way as Elijah, he was still as important a prophet as Elijah?
  2. @ 35:58 – Pastor Mark, did you make friends with a lot of flies and mosquitoes while recording the message?
  3. @ 37:31 – When will we begin Pastor Miles’ plan for meeting from house to house?

  5. @ 46:35 – 1 Peter 4:6 speaks of the Gospel preached even to those who are dead. Just to dive in a little bit on this verse. Is this meaning those that are spiritually dead?

  2. @ 29:29 – Was Goliath possibly related to the giant Zamzummim?
  3. @ 32:21 – You mentioned in your message on 2 John that 2 John was written “from” Ephesus. What city was it written “to”?

  5. @ 36:47 – “But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! ” 1 Cor 15:51. Does this happen with our bodies as well? I’ve never thought hard about it, but I’m assuming our bodies will be changed as well. Now would this be where we get our new bodies? And what would happen with our dog? If this were to happen, would God just leave our animals to fend for themselves? If we care so much about our pets, why wouldn’t God care even more to care for them in this event?
  6. @ 44:49 – In point 2 you said “God will allow you to long jealously for the life and possession of others, to provoke you to move into the life He desires for you.” How is that possible if jealousy is sinful?
  7. @ 54:47 – I feel like I’ve been “meandering aimlessly.” What do I need to do to not keep doing that?
  8. @ 1:13:56 – Your points on Sunday kind of make it seem like God is heavy handed. I haven’t thought of God like that before. I’m not sure how to reconcile that with Jesus?

  1. @ 15:34 – Monday night on TV Pastor Miles shared about transcendence. He mentioned “near death experiences.” There was a popular book about a boy who said he experienced one which turned out to be not true. Dr. Oz on TV will periodically have on people who say they experienced it. I think they are questionable. What do you think?
  2. @ 22:07 – Are there any Prophets today? On the 2 “Christian ” TV stations. So many of the guest speakers- both men and women say God told them or God spoke to them them about various subjects both current and future events.
  3. @ 30:02 – Deuteronomy 1:35 – Israel won’t be allowed into the promised land due to unbelief and disobedience; 2:15 the older generation has died and they can go in. What did the people think during this time- were they just waiting for the older generation to die and the younger generation to grow up and be strong. For 38 eight years just waiting – a very trying time for Moses knowing he would not enter too.
  4. @ 31:26 – My grandma and so many more Jewish people never heard about Jesus. Where is she in heaven or hell?
  5. @ 38:03 – Question from last week’s point 1 — It seems like we will always be desperate for competent leadership if we are only given two main choices to choose from (rep/dem). How do you vote for “leaders” that are obviously not qualified yet they are your only options?
  6. @ 47:07 – The corona virus has been called the Beast. Is this what the book of Revelation was talking about? I thought the beast was a super computer. What is your opinion?
  7. @ 52:02 – I know you have taught 1 John. My question is on 5:16. The sin leading to death is the unpardonable sin, right? Should we not pray for those who don’t believe Jesus?
  8. @ 55:30 – For the Rapture, I have heard we should be looking to the sky. Does that mean literally watching the sky for Jesus? Or be living your life in readiness being about the Father’s business?

Questions & Timestamps:

  1. @ 20:44 – If we desire to make wise decisions and live by wisdom, the sources of information we receive are vital to living in wisdom. You spoke about having a media fast, and social media, both good ideas. Are there also practical ways that people can learn how to discern what resources of news and information are reliable? How can they learn to ignore false reports and follow reliable sources? When you read news–what questions go through your mind to lead you to determine whether this report is true or false?
  2. @ 28:57 – Can you reconcile… worry is a form of mediation versus Jesus tells us not to worry?
  3. @ 33:41 – Watching the live feed, just wanted to know, has it ever been an aspiration of yours to become a Televangelist?
  4. @ 35:31 – Please define prayers of supplication as compared to prayers of petitions. Do we have to distinguish them when we pray. I is there a different way of praying them?
  5. @ 42:56 – How can communion be taken from our Church while this crisis continues?
  6. @ 46:35 – Do you think this social distancing, and closing down the church is the way God would want his church to respond? Shouldn’t the church obey God rather than man? If we are to “not forsake the assembling of ourselves together” shouldn’t we be holding church?
  7. @ 56:36 – You quoted James 4:13-15 in the message. It says “you ought to say, “if the Lord wills, we shall live.” What if it is God’s will that people get the Coronavirus and die. Should we intervene?
  8. @ 1:01:03 – What if I am praying and focusing on things that “promote peace,” and I am still anxious? What should I do?

Questions & Timestamps:

  1. @ 24:31 – Another followup: What I don’t understand is this: less than a hundred years ago, women couldn’t wear pants because culture dictated that those were men’s clothes, but now it’s obviously not a big deal, even among most Christians. If our culture eventually relaxes the standard about men wearing dresses (because they’re pretty comfy), will this cease to be an issue in the church like it did with women and pants? Is a girl being a tomboy and wearing boys’ clothes (which I did for a while growing up with four brothers) different at the root than a boy wearing girls clothes? Is most of the problem simply because of all the other stuff going on with transgender issues right now that makes it stickier? Or do you think it’s inherently different?
  2. @ 31:39 – Are there other books—besides the Bible—that talk about the exodus from Egypt?
  3. @ 33:34 – Can you explain a bit more about “Common Grace.”
  4. @ 34:45 – Matthew 18:34-35 speaks of not only forgiving, but doing so from my heart. I have a sister who I have been praying about. I love her dearly, but I have found that when I trust her, she cannot help but gossip and turn people one against the other. I’ve forgiven her again and again, but can I truly forgive someone from my heart if I learn that they simply cannot be trusted? I feel as though I love her despite her many betrayals, but can I truly love and forgive someone wholly without being willing to start again with a clean slate? Isn’t that more like allowing myself to knowingly be taken advantage of?
  5. @ 43:21 – What does “Apocalypse” mean in the Bible?
  6. @45:18 – In Matt 16:18, right after Simon Peter says, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”, Jesus responds “… on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” What did the word Church mean at that time? We think of the Church as beginning later, after Christ’s resurrection.
  7. @ 51:53 – I do believe that God lives in our hearts. If the church is just a building where Christians meet, then why did Jesus say, when His parents found Him in the temple “But why did you need to search?” he asked. “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” Luke 2:49 NLT.

  1. @ 21:57 – I’m listening to the message and thinking, but what of those that use the Bible and twist it to their own agenda? I know they think they are doing right. Ever since I heard that Hitler used biblical reference to justify his actions, that has bothered me.
  2. @ 27:12 – So, I listened to your answer (thank you), but it seems like you’re saying that in order to tell if a biblical command still applies today, we need to do an in depth study of the contextual culture in which it was given. There’s no like, rule of thumb for these types of things? How we can tell through scripture whether a command still applies today? And if you can’t just use the Bible alone to determine these types of questions, where do you start on doing the outside research?
  3. @ 32:20 – My son identifies himself as a boy however he enjoys wearing dresses. Are you saying he is an abomination?
  4. @ 56:17 – What if a law is wrong? Is it ok to not follow the law if it is not correct?
  5. @ 59:20 – In the message last Sunday, did you say that there is no rapture?
  6. @ 1:03:58 – God shows us how to judge righteously by pointing out three criteria: show no partiality, don’t ignore the small person, and don’t be intimidated by the powerful. Why do you think God had to point out these three traits of righteous judgement?

  1. @ 24:20 – What is the difference between mercy and grace?
  2. @ 28:02 – Why doesn’t our church teach that women should wear head coverings while praying? And if women aren’t supposed to wear men’s clothes and men aren’t supposed to wear women’s, why does our church allow women to wear pants? And if it’s ok for women to wear pants, does that mean it’s ok for men to wear dresses? Is it just about the intent of the heart? How can we tell the difference between a cultural teaching in the Bible and something we should still adhere to today? Scripture references 1 Cor 11:5 & Deut 22:5.
  3. @ 34:43 – When I read Matthew 15:24 it draws me up short. If God is unchanging then how did it come to be that He changed His mind? And why would He try to turn the woman away at first if He is merciful?
  4. @ 41:00 – How is my wife supposed to relate to an acquaintance who claims to be a Christian and saved and has gone thru a divorce for personal reasons and seems to think it’s not that big a deal? How can she be loving as well as pointing this out?
  5. @ 48:03 – Since we humans are imperfect, and our judgements therefore also imperfect, how should a judge presiding over a trial address the issue of grace? Is it possible to even consider grace in a legal proceeding without also imperfectly applying it? In our personal affairs, we tend to not forgive unless we feel the offender is remorseful and asks for forgiveness, otherwise no way. How do we balance judgement and grace in our daily lives?

Questions & Timestamps:

  1. @ 17:09 – I’ve heard bible commentary (most recently from Spurgeon) who says our feelings aren’t important. I was on fire for Jesus when I was first saved. Lately, I’ve felt nothing, but still go through the motions, hoping those feelings will come back and feeling full of shame. How do belief (ie. believing in our hearts ) and feelings intersect?
  2. @ 28:11 – Is it OK for Christians to dance?
  3. @ 31:33 – The bible clearly condemns homosexuality, Old and New testament. However, some who practice religion feel their lifestyle is ok and feel God will accept this and they will enter into eternal life.
  4. @ 36:52 – Did Jesus go to hell and there He defeated satan? Also, what did Jesus do for the 3 days before He was resurrected?
  5. @ 40:39 – Why does our Church not have members? Other Churches I attended we did have members. That way we were able to express and vote on various issues.
  6. @ 46:39 – Deuteronomy 1 gives us a guideline for selecting leaders, how do we support leadership that doesn’t fit those guidelines. It seems this president isn’t necessarily a godly man but does support some biblical values.
  7. @ 57:10 – Last night on Christian Tv Pastor Joseph Prince discussed taking communion. He said that we should take communion on a daily basis at our homes or how many times you want to using whatever elements we want to. He also said that there will be healings for you if you do this. And he gave specific examples of people being healed this way. Your comments please.
  8. @ 1:03:17 – Pastor Miles mentioned the Crown Of Life. Will all Believers get one OR is there certain criteria in suffering one has to meet?
  9. @ 1:05:18 – I’ve been worrying about money lately, so much so that it’s impacting my relationship with God. And I’m constantly worrying about all the other “cares of this world.” If Matthew 13:12 talks about the cares of this world choked out the work of God’s word in the lives of some, am I in danger of losing my security and salvation?

  2. @ 28:50 – The “son of man” is referred to in the Bible over and over. I was just reading Matthew 12:32. Who is the son of man referred to there, in Ezekiel, etc?
  3. @ 32:37 – There is a lot of talk in the Bible about the sabbath, keeping it holy. I’ve heard Rick Warren say we need to still keep the sabbath (paraphrased) but have never it said at our church. Why or why not should we “keep the sabbath”. If we should, what does that look like?
  4. @ 40:23 – What do you think of pastors on the Christian TV stations are Into deciphering codes in the Bible? Like numbers for prophecies.
  5. @ 48:16 – What does it mean that Jesus is “seated at the right hand of the Father”. Not being funny but it sounds like He doesn’t move from that position.
  6. @ 50:30 – Would this be a right thing to say. Pastor Ed Young said. “We are as righteous as God.”
  7. @ 53:02 – Matthew 12:36 says that we will have to give an account for every careless word we say. I’ve read in other versions that “careless” can be translated as “idle”. J Vernon McGee says that it can translated as”blasphemy”. I’m not sure whether this is about all the thoughtless and careless things we say to people or if it means turning away from God. I worry that I’m going to be held accountable for every time I trusted in the wrong things and people rather than trusting in Him OR every time I said something thoughtless. Can you help me to understand this?

  1. @ 23:56 – What is the biblical purpose of the church? I’ve heard 2 contrasting mindsets: 1)”church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum of saints” versus a different mindset, 2) “church is the gathering of wheat, not the tares” or other similar analogies e.g. the church is Christ’s “bride”. Which mindset is correct?
  2. @ 28:32 – Leviticus 19:28 tells us not to cut our skin or have tattoos. But at Cross Connection and other churches some have tattoos. Is this ok? Or are these members disobeying the word of God.
  3. @ 35:48 – How do you discern between God’s purpose for you and your own bucket list?
  4. @ 43:21 – If I am a single woman, be it unmarried, widowed, or divorced- can I also look to Isaiah 54 for the comfort that the Lord, Himself is my husband? Or is it speaking ONLY to Israel?
  5. @ 45:34 – Why and when did humans stop living as long as people did in Moses’ day?
  6. @ 50:43 – The passage read from in Hebrews 3 on Sunday seems to say you could lose your salvation, if you harden your heart. Is that the right way to read that?
  7. @ 51:45 – You mentioned Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapel. Do you know about the split in Calvary Chapel, and what do you think about it.
  8. @ 56:15 – Is it ok to listen to non-Christian music, like U2, which you talked about listening to on Sunday?

  1. @ 9:58 – In verse 4 in New King James it says Moses killed the kings of Amorites and the king of the Bashan, I the English Standard Version it says defeated. If a person did no know that God told Moses to kill everyone when going into battle. I would think that if some one was using the English Standard Version only they would be getting confused if listening to someone is teaching out of the New King James. ( kill and defeated have deferent definition). My personal thought is the Jame James and New King James is the closest to the correct translation.
  2. @ 18:51 – Simon of Cyrene was credited as being the black man who helped Jesus with the cross. But wasn’t he an Arab or Jew with dark skin? Or was he what we consider black in the U.S.
  3. @ 20:49 – Are other churches that are not teaching like we do wrong?
  4. @ 28:11– Mark 14:7 says “The poor you will always have with you” What is this saying? It seems so negative and hopeless.
  5. @ 31:44 – What is it about Deuteronomy that makes it like other treaties from the time of Moses?
  6. @ 38:00 – This morning I read Matthew 7. It speaks of judging others and self righteousness. And then, later in the chapter, it says “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.” and ” Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” I’ve TRIED not to judge but I judge CONSTANTLY. This chapter fills me with dread because, then, I’m not doing the will of my Father in Heaven. It sounds like He isn’t going to let me in.
  7. @ 46:40 – Why does the author you mentioned not believe in freewill? It sure seems like we have freewill.
  8. @ 52:24 – Pastor Rick Wiles says the corona virus was sent by God to purge the world of sin. And that Christians won’t get it. Isn’t there some truth in that God is allowing it?
  9. @ 59:02 – Matthew 8:12 refers to “the sons of the kingdom” that will be “thrown into outer darkness”. Who are the sons of the kingdom? How can I know I don’t belong to that group?
  10. @ 1:01:29 – I’ve been reading through Isaiah for a long time. I read most of chapter 47 this morning. There was an excerpt that seemed to really apply to what I had just been praying about. Is that the wrong application? It really felt like clarity. I’m currently having some money troubles and while I thought I had been looking at it rightly, I’m now seeing that I may have been way off. The whole chapter didn’t feel like it applied to me but I got a “sense” of being corrected, that I have been a lover of money, a “lover of luxury” because of how anxious I’ve been to never be uncomfortable. I hope this makes sense!

  1. @ 16:53 – Tax collectors of the bible. Were they reps of the Roman govt. or were they an early version of the Mafia who worked thru extortion.
  2. @ 24:16 – I was just reading Isaiah 45 1-7. I know this is prophecy (fulfilled?) but I am struggling with verse 7. You always say God brings order from chaos, but here it says “I form light and create darkness; I make well-being and create calamity…”. Ugh, I thought it was the devil that did these things. Have I been guilty of trying to whitewash our Lord, or am misreading the text or misapplying it?
  3. @ 31:06 – Is there a difference between sex and gender. There’s a lot of talk about gender identity. What does the Bible have to say about this?
  4. @ 43:22 – You’ve mentioned the creation of Adam and Eve several times over the last few weeks. Two questions. Do you believe in a literal 6-day creation and young earth, or a different view? Second, when God made Eve, did he make her less than Adam, or place Adam above her? It seems like the Bible could endorse sexism?
  5. @ 59:06 – In the message you said that God doesn’t intend for us to be alone or in isolation, and that life is better together. But I’m an introvert and would rather not be around people. I feel like I could do just fine alone.
  6. @ 1:01:24 – Sin brings brokenness, division, and separation. If I am separated from a family member, what is the best way to deal with that?
  7. @ 1:08:56 – I was a member at a church that had home fellowships, and we had Bible Studies. Why don’t you do a Bible study at the Connect Groups?

  1. @ 9:09 – Do you think climate change is real? Is it “manmade?”
  2. @ 15:51 – Do you think the stuff happening in Iran is connected to Bible end times prophecy, like in Ezekiel and Revelation?
  3. @ 18:15 – If humanity began literally with Adam and Eve, and they had children, wouldn’t have there been incestuous relationships to grow the population?
  4. @ 20:29 – Is there no longer “choice” when we get to heaven like there was for Adam and Eve when they were initially created?
  5. @ 24:15 – How long do you think Adam and Eve were in the garden before they ate of the tree?
  6. @ 24:49 – I’m in some need of spiritual minty freshness. In my daily bible reading I’ve been going through Revelation, and honestly? I’ve found it deeply disturbing. 1. How are we sure they aren’t talking about the crazy world we live in now OR 2. Why would we want unbelievers that we love and care about to go through all that? When I hear people say they want Jesus to come right now I want to say Nooo wait, I want to give some people some extra time. Am I looking at this all wrong? Is what I really need actually some cold blooded love?
  7. @ 31:55 – In Genesis several times the scriptures speak of God saying “we” did, made, etc. I interpret this to reflect the triune of The God-head. John 1 declares that Jesus is the Word and was with God before creation. The Holy Spirit being the third we? Is this a reasonable interpretation?
  8. @ 33:10 –  Question on 2 Corinthians 2:12-14. Paul went to Troas and found the place to be ripe for preaching the Gospel. There was an open door. But he was worried about the Corinthians because Titus had not come to Troas to give him a report. So Paul left the mission field God prepared and went to Macedonia to find Titus. Is this ok to leave God’s work to satisfy human emotion?

  1. @ 17:00 – Are there other instances in the Bible where “the satan” (as in Job 1 and 2) is referred to rather than the devil we know and hate? How do we differentiate between the two when we study on our own?
  2. @ 23:36 – There seems to be differences in the Gospel accounts of the resurrection. Mark says that Mary Magdalene, Mary the the mother of Jesus, and Salome found the tomb empty, with a single man (angel) inside (Mark 16:1-8). Matthew Says only the two Marys were present, it was an angel who told them about the resurrection and then Jesus Himself met them on the road (Matt. 28:1-10). Luke writes that there that there were two men inside the tomb (Luke 24:1-12). And finally, John seems to say that it was Mary Magdalene alone, and that she never saw Jesus at all, but thought his body was taken (John 20:1-18). Which are we supposed to believe? And how then are we supposed to take everything in the Bible as hard fact?
  3. @ 31:53 – What are your favorite podcasts that you like to listen to?
  4. @ 39:31 – In Revelation 1:20 It says “…The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches…”, Who/what are the seven angels of the seven churches?

Then in Revelation 4:5 it says “…Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.” What are the seven spirits of God? Mr. Google is confused
  5. @ 46:53 Someone I know has been having weird experiences. He has had a couple strange dreams and then woke up to see something in his room. (Ghost, apparition?) There are a few other weird things that have happened to him as well. He is definitely not an enthusiast of supernatural things or doesn’t take an interest in that kind of stuff. I don’t know what to make of it, what advice can I give him? He believes in a higher power but not a Christian.
  6. @ 54:00 – I’m not sure I agree with what was said about the joy of giving to others the gifts God has given to us. It seems that you said that we give gifts because of the joy we receive in giving the gift to someone else. We are not responsible for the person receiving the gift with joy. We’re only responsible for giving the gift. Right?
  7. @ 1:00 – Is it worthwhile to interact with people through social media/online communication to challenge their wrongheaded ideas, or is it just “casting our pearls before swine?” And if we do interact with them, how should we do so to be the most effective?

  1. @ 11:01 – What is your favorite book in the Bible and why?
  2. @ 15:26 –  In chapter 3, Job is questioning why he was born. He seems to be questing God because God controls all things including birth. So it seems that righteousness is not measured by questioning Gods allowance of suffering in our lives?
  3. @ 17:51 –  You taught that Job was suicidal. I cannot see Job having suicidal thoughts. I do however see him longing to leave his situation via death. He expresses this desire through submission in prayer to the Omnipotent God, by asking God to kill him. His imagination of ‘IF’ he were never born can’t be seen as “suicidal” thoughts.” All of this seems to me to be Job submitting to God his desire to be done with life. True, he obviously has the wrong existential understanding. He is betraying his wrong understanding by asking to leave this life because of all the loss he’s experienced. I know God’s word says, “As a man thinks in his heart so is he” so Job is definitely heading down the wrong road and it may not be long before he does take action toward his own demise or even dwell on thoughts of how he might accomplish such , but in the text I do not see him having suicidal thoughts. So, why do you say you are sure that this passage is saying Job had suicidal thoughts?
  4. @ 27:00 –  What are some practical things to do to keep up hope while you’re going through a dark season like Job? How do you keep your eyes on the hope in the future when things get so overwhelming now?
  5. @ 34:20 –  What are some of the warning signs that might warrant needing to ask if someone is suicidal or self harming?
  6. @ 38:42 –  Is suicide a sin?” Do you go to hell if you commit suicide?

  3. @ 23:38 – Listening to the service today and I didn’t totally agree with the definition of empathy. I feel the gift of empathy was put down too much. I think empathy is a wonderful gift that allows us to understand others in suffering. Empathy is a higher step to sympathy. As I understand the whole world uses sympathy, thinking that is enough to understand how people are feeling. Why do you think sympathy is better than empathy?
  4. @ 30:18 – You talked about sympathy in the message. What if your problem is apathy?
  5. @ 34:33 – In the message you said that it is best, when helping someone that is suffering, to “say nothing.” But what if you are asked a direct question about suffering from someone who is suffering? What if they are saying things about God that are false? How should you respond?

God makes a lot of promises and prophesies concerning them, but does Galatians 3:28 (there is neither Jew nor Gentile) mean that we are all the same now and those are promised to the church as a whole? Politically, I have also heard that America should stand with Israel because of prophesies concerning them as a nation. Is there legitimate basis for that position? And are Messianic Jews like super-Christians because they’re a part of God’s chosen people?
  2. @ 28:14 – What is suppose to happen to Palestine? Should they be totally out of that area? Where are those people suppose to live?
  3. @ 36:02 – Will Jehovah Witnesses go to heaven? Is belief in the trinity a requirement as long as they believe that Jesus was God’s perfect creation, that He sacrificed himself and that through His resurrection, He gave us everlasting life?
  4. @ 38:31 – I am in an “unequally yoked” marriage. My husband is not saved nor shows any inclination to wanting to explore the church. I have a new fire for Christ in my life and am struggling with our differences. He participates in our kids’ nightly prayers (as a good sport) but discounts anything I may say privately. Do I just continue to set a good example as a loving, forgiving, Christian wife or should I nag him about it? in this intimate setting, how should I tackle this obstacle?

  6. @ 36:18 – What happens to people around the world with no access to the gospel?
  7. @ 42:43 – What is this church’s strategy to fight de-conversion in the community?
  8. @ 44:50 – What is the difference between backslide and de-conversion?

    1. If 1 John 5:7-8 have something that seems to have been added later by a scribe, how do we know there aren’t other passages that have been added or deleted? Does this call into question the trustworthiness of the Bible?
  3. @ 29:42 – Can we lose our salvation if we once believed in God but then we go through a bad period where we can’t pray or do good works even if we still believe in God?

  2. @ 14:25 – So if I love someone, that doesn’t necessarily mean that I have to like them or like what that person is doing, right? (So long as I treat them lovingly still.)
  3. @ 22:18 – I was wondering if you’ve heard of ” spiritual formation “. If so, what is it… and most importantly… is it Biblical?
  4. @ 37:28 – It seems there’s been some “prominent” Christians mentioned in the media recently who have “walked away” from their faith. We read in the 1 Timothy 4:1 “now the Spirit Expressively says that in later time some will depart from the faith giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons”. Along with praying what should be our response as brothers and sisters in Christ as we see this happening in our circle of friends? Do we separate ourselves? Do we try to come alongside them? I appreciate your insight and any other scriptures that would increase our knowledge of how to live in these latter days.
  5. @ 40:02 – If love is not a “mushy sentimentality” does that mean that love is emotionless?
  6. @ 49:46 – What does it mean that “love does not rejoice in injustice” in 1 Corinthians 13?

  8. @ 56:40 – How are we supposed to love people and also stand up against sin, or stand for righteousness, and not come across as hateful?

  1. @ 13:31 – Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” How did you come to the conclusion that the fruit of the spirit is love which produces joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control? I like that interpretation because it makes it easier to understand but that’s not how it reads.
  2. @ 19:10 – Why is it often so difficult to love others?
  3. @ 26:32 – Does God still love those who are responsible for mass shootings?
  4. @ 29:44 – How can God be so loving and yet allow so much evil in our world?
  5. @ 33:27 – Is it possible to know God’s love and allow our hearts to grow numb to its reality and power?
  6. @ 43:33 – Do you think our culture struggles with loving others because we have traded spending quality time with each other for social media and settled for more isolation?
  7. @ 47:00 – My 8 yr old has asked me a couple of tricky questions. 1. Does the baby who dies before birth or even shortly after go to heaven if they don’t know God? 2. What about the kids/adults w special needs? We have family who have lost both still born and child with down’s.
  8. @ 58:47 – Can you talk about what love looks like in different situations? Is the best kind of love always sacrificial or can it be more loving in some situations to set boundaries? How can you tell the difference? And are there any biblical examples of lovingly set boundaries?
  9. @ 1:09:14 – I don’t see pastors in the New Testament. Are modern churches, and pastors Biblical?

  2. @ 17:59 – If the Gnostics believed Jesus never came in the flesh what did they do with the crucifixion account?
  3. @ 24:28 – This question came up in our connect group in reference to 1 Corinthians 11. Do women have to have their head covered in church or was this specific to the people of that time?
  4. @ 28:41 – How do we judge messages from thinkers that don’t necessarily pass John’s 3-step spiritual verification test? I have read the writings of many thinkers whose work on purpose and morality have lent clarity to how I perceive reality, but I do not think the writers themselves align squarely with the Christian view and often their philosophy requires some reconciling with the Christian message. Some examples in mind: Jordan Peterson, Jonathan Haidt, and Nietzsche.

    5. If it is true that we shouldn’t trust false prophets, why would you recommend we read Nietzsche.

  8. @ 49:16 – I’m going through the entire Bible cover to cover again (chronologically this time) and I always want to skip through the geneologies and laws, all the “boring” bits. I know they’re included for very good reasons, but can you give some pastorly wisdom or encouragement as to why those shouldn’t be skipped? (Or pastorly permission to just go ahead and skip them?)
  9. @ 57:40 – When we all die and also the Rapture happens what will the Holy Spirit’s function be in Heaven?

How is it that someone can grow up knowing the scriptures, yet still feel the urge to love and even marry another of the same gender? Today’s society pushes to accept gays and gay marriage. So, what is Cross Connection’s belief on society’s acceptance vs God’s word in the scripture. What are all of the sins?
  5. @ 46:56 – How come we have to choose every moment to walk in the light instead of just once? Why isn’t it instinctual after we choose it once?

Questions & Timestamps:

  1. @ 4:45 – On Saturday two women from the Jehovah Witness Church knocked on my door! Felt ill-equipped to say anything so I didn’t! What should I do to be prepared next time they come to my door?
  2. @ 14:37 – My question stems from a quote referenced by Pastor Garrett this morning. “How much of our church is American, and how much is Biblical” – David Platt. Recently I read a book titled “Small Is Big!: Unleashing the Big Impact of Intentionally Small Churches” – The book presents the argument that the biblical church was commonly small, and it was commonly led by “ordinary people” instead of the trained religious elite. The book brings up a lot of questions, but I’d love to hear your response to statements in the book like “Most aspects of ministry are better in a small setting” so each can bring a contribution (1 Corinthians 14:26). And another statement, “Simple churches multiply more quickly” – eg. China house church movement. How does a church the size of CCC, with multiple full-time pastors, look like the church of Scripture? And if there are areas where it doesn’t, do we have good reasons? (FYI – I love CCC and am not intending to be harsh with my question – and I promise my next question won’t be so short 🙂 ).
  3. @ 24:39 – What’s the difference between calling and anointing?
  4. @ 30:49 –  How can we encourage others that their presence here in church is important to all the church?
  5. @ 33:30 – How does one go about finding God’s will for their life?
  6. @ 36:13 – Why doesn’t this church offer an altar call?
  7. @ 37:31 – If we truly repent from our sins then Jesus will forgive us and separate our sin from us as far as the east is from the west. How do we reconcile this with on Judgment day we will have to give an account for every word and deed?
  8. @ 41:05 –  God gave the Israelites a whole bunch of rules, including the 10 commandments. I’ve been reading them in Leviticus 19&20. Some are related to sacrifice, others to controlling disease, and others for purity. I understand why we don’t follow sacrificial laws, because Jesus fulfilled these. But why not the others? Jesus said he came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. (Matthew 5:17)
  9. @ 46:54 – Why are there differences between the NKJV and the NLT versions in the Acts 9 passage we were in on Sunday?
  10. @ 50:33 – Bonus Question! 😉

January 20th Sermon Q&A

My hope as we move into 2019 is to do a little bit more to answer some of the questions that those in the church have, as we study through the Scriptures together. Certainly I answer questions one-to-one when asked, but when things are a little busy after a service on Sunday, it is sometimes difficult for people to get to me with their question. That being the case, we’ve been receiving questions texted in on Sundays, and this is attempt #1 at providing answers via podcast. I hope this helps. If so, comment below, I’d love your feedback.
